Textiles

Mali silk is a work of art produced by the hands and knowledge of local villagers; it forever carries an imprint of their character, thoughts, emotions, feelings, spirit and life of the weavers and traditions of village.

Thai silk is famous around the world for its unique and uncommon appearance, luster, and sheen. Combining two blends, one color for the warp and another for the weft, Thai silk fabric color changes based on protected formulas and varying against angle of light.

“Textiles are the lifeblood of fashion design. Thread count, composition and texture flow, fit and character.”
Brian Johnson, Designer

Weaving is an integral part of life and culture in Thailand, Laos and Cambodian culture and community; village women are taught art-form, patterns and dying formulas from early childhood and these traditions have been passed down form generations to another from mother to child.

Weavers will not be found in a factory setting , they will be seen weaving richly colored silk patterns from generations-old looms through their door way of their weathered wooden houses, under shade of tree canopy or beneath their wooden house built on stilts.

Mali silk and cotton textiles are naturally-dyed colors extracted from sustainably harvested from plants. The dye formulas are often guarded family secrets passed down through the generations. Dying is a difficult art form and colors may vary slightly from one dye lot to another depending on such variables as the time of year.

Mali collection of silk and cotton scarfs carries with it a unique characteristic of color pigments, design patterns, yarn texture giving then they’re unique Mali quality and design.

Behind each Mali scarf lies a legacy tradition a passion and patience effort from harvesting of the cocoons, dying formulas, weaving and designs techniques to create a Mali design.
